Yule con!

Tue Dec 9, 2008, 11:24 PM
  • Mood: Approval
  • Listening to: Mew "Comforting Sounds"
  • Watching: the backs of my eyelids.
  • Drinking: chocolate milk. :)
There's a lot to talk about, so I'll start from the beginning. We went thinking that we were just going to be participating in a few panels. :iconaerithreborn: and I knew we were going to have out badges covered, so Post-it Ninja and :iconmoenokorinova: bought their badges and we went about our way. We were given an early morning panel (after being told that the green room was reserved for guests-- by the way, we were given volunteer badges, even though we were cosplay guests.) and Romo and I finished getting ready in the panel room while we chatted with some other cosplayers.

We went through Friday pretty easily. We got tired, my Schro teeth kept falling off, so we just went home to finish our costumes and catch up on sleep after only two hours Thursday night.

Saturday was a nightmare. My Seras wig didn't come in on time, so we had to modify [link] into [link] . Post-it ended up running to Sally's for me while I was supposed to be doing Bones' Walter make-up as well as Romo's. The closest thing we could get was one of those combs with the wired hair on it. :iconaerithreborn: was out at a work meeting, so when Bones showed up late, I was flipping out!

Long story short, we made it to the con late for our own panel. When we got in, it had been invaded with a bunch of people for cosplay sign up. We went to talk to the girl up at the front and she told us that the people running cosplay abandoned them. We asked "Who was it supposed to be" and she said "The people running this panel." We were like-- oh shit, what?! So, we ended up having the whole cosplay aspect of the con dumped in our laps... all this three hours before the contest and we had a theatre in cosplay panel to do before that. Anyway, we got ready for the panel (I was guiding people into the room with a British accent. :P ) and went through that. It was loads of fun! Then we had work to do.

We had a bunch of people start to ask us about where to sign up and we had to figure things out. We ended up with a lot of people just offering to help because the dating game had been canceled. Shiri Tori and Sakura Star were the first to help, then my friend Eggroll joined in, then Dug Finn started work on sound (after we found out that we didn't have any way to play audio-- not even speakers or a mic!) and things started falling together.

I'm not even going to touch on the Johnny Otaku thing, except to link you to somewhere with all the info because that's not what this is about. [link]

The contest went very smoothly for the most part, especially after only having 2 hours to put it together. :D We had loads of help and I can't thank people enough for jumping in to help. To the girl who was informed to come find us for the contest, I'm so sorry! That must have been daunting!

We finished off the stressful evening with a photoshoot, a game of apples to apples and two more panels to round out the night.

It wasn't until the next day that we heard about Dug Finn spreading a good word for us to the cosplay coordinator of Ikkicon and now we're doing up to 4 panels there and have our badges taken care of!

We got to see many people we hadn't been able to see in a long time-- Artema, Lily Lightning, TR Rose and Concolor just to name a few. It was the people more than anything that made Yule worth while. The polite way people treated each other gave Yule a very relaxed atmosphere and we're very happy that we could contribute. :D Thank you everyone who participated in making Yule such a blast.

I only went on Friday, so I don't know much. I heard from Andy that I didn't miss much. He refused to compete because commissions and hand-made things were judged on the same level of competition. Made me very mad to hear....
